Blocking gets noticed. It gets brought up, and it usually makes the thing bigger than it was. So a lot of people never take the distance they need, and just keep absorbing it instead. Restrict is the quiet way to take it.
What it does
- Their messages go to Requests instead of your inbox.
- They stop seeing your stories and your posts.
- They stop seeing when you're online.
- Reading what they send never marks it Seen.
- You still see everything of theirs, completely normally.
What they see
- Nothing changes.
- Your profile, your picture, and your name in search all stay exactly where they were.
- No notification, no label, no hint.
It's undetectable by design, not by accident. motion. never sends the fact that you've restricted someone to their device, so their app is never handed a reason. Their feeds are filtered on our side, and they simply receive less, which looks identical to you not posting.
We deliberately don't hide your profile picture or take you out of their search. A picture that vanishes for one specific person is a tell.
One tap undoes it, and everyone you've restricted stays in a list in Settings, so you never have to keep track.
Blocking is still there when you want it. Restrict is for the times you'd rather nothing happened at all.
The point was never the person you stepped away from. It's everyone else in your day.
Why I built this
About a year ago, I caught myself scrolling for hours. One minute I was bored. The next, I looked up and it was 11pm. These apps promised to connect me with people. Honestly? I just felt worse after.
That's when I thought of motion. Real social media. One that doesn't just connect you with your friends, but is actually private. Not the kind that claims it and sells you out anyway. No ads. Ever. A place where finding someone new on motion feels like a spark of curiosity, not just another number.
So I took that idea and spent hours, real hours, building something for people like me. People who want their time to actually mean something. No addiction loops. No tricks. An app I'd genuinely want to open.
